The 28th Bomb Wing has been awarded the 2024 Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award for its exceptionally meritorious service. The recognition adds to the unit’s previous honours, including the 2023 and 2022 Air and Space Outstanding Unit Awards, and the 2019 Meritorious Unit Award, since its realignment under Air Force Global Strike Command in 2015.

“This is a remarkable testament to everyone working together and their unwavering dedication to accomplishing our mission of providing strategic deterrence here,” said Col. Erick Lord, 28th Bomb Wing commander. “This is a team win that clearly distinguishes us and our vital role on the world stage.”

The award, presented by the Secretary of the Air Force, recognises units for superior performance, often involving significant accomplishments or contributions with a global impact or during combat operations. In 2024, the wing carried out two Bomber Task Force deployments and five higher headquarters directives, including airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force and affiliated militia groups.

Other notable undertakings included relocating the base’s entire B-1B Lancer fleet to Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota, conducting a comprehensive base-wide mobility exercise, advancing extensive B-21 Raider construction projects, and engaging in numerous community and civic outreach activities. These operations collectively underscored the wing’s strategic importance and operational capability.
