“Together with the prime minister, we are now looking for all possible ways to make decisions over the summer on contracting these systems,” Kasčiūnas stated. This announcement followed a detailed presentation of the planned arms acquisitions to the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defence.
The planned acquisitions include an additional medium-range air defence system, a short-range air defence system, and certain mechanisation processes to ensure comprehensive integration. “I believe we are going to have good news in early July,” Kasčiūnas expressed optimistically.
This decision aligns with earlier statements made by the Defence Minister in May, where he indicated that Lithuania was considering the acquisition of IRIS-T SLM air defence systems from Germany.
