Switzerland has expressed its intention to participate in the European Sky Shield Initiative established by Germany in 2022. According to Reuters, the move has raised criticism due to Switzerland's long-standing tradition of neutrality.

The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and Germany’s Federal Ministry of Defence have commenced joint preparations for the deployment of the Arrow 3 missile defence system in Germany. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the defence partnership between the two nations, with the first deployment scheduled for 2025.

A professional meeting to kick off the project was held at Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and organised by the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) within the IMOD’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D). Over two days, representatives from Israeli defence companies, including IAI, Elbit Systems, and MBDA Deutschland GmbH, gathered to discuss project specifications and deployment logistics.

The Arrow defence system, a joint venture between Israel and the United States, was developed to counter long-range ballistic missile threats and has shown its effectiveness in recent combat scenarios. The system’s Arrow 3 interceptor demonstrated its advanced capabilities during successful defences against Iranian missile attacks on April 14 and October 1, 2024.

One of the most advanced missile defence systems globally, Arrow utilises cutting-edge technology to address emerging aerial threats with precision. IAI serves as the system’s prime contractor, working closely with international partners to enhance regional and global security frameworks.

The IMDO continues to lead Israel’s aerial defence development through the DDR&D, reinforcing the nation’s layered defence capabilities. This collaboration with Germany underscores Israel’s commitment to strengthening international alliances in missile defence while supporting its defence industry’s global footprint.
