Teledyne FLIR Defense has been awarded a four-year, USD 74.2 million contract by the U.S. Army to further develop its next-generation sensor suite for the M1135 Stryker Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV). The contract will support continued modernisation of the vehicle’s detection capabilities to help safeguard military personnel against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

As the lead integrator, Teledyne FLIR is developing an enhanced, autonomous sensor suite featuring its own technologies and third-party solutions. The upgraded system includes the FLIR R80D SkyRaider™ drone integrated with the MUVE B330 biological detection payload, as well as a proprietary command and control system that streamlines data through automation and sensor fusion.

The company previously delivered prototype systems in 2023 for government evaluation, which led to a USD 168 million production contract awarded last November. Under this latest agreement, Teledyne FLIR will deliver six new prototypes, enhance software for hazard prediction, and provide further support for ongoing testing.

Dr. JihFen Lei, President of Teledyne FLIR Defense, highlighted the importance of the project, saying: “By continuing to enhance sensor capabilities on NBCRV, we can help ensure future warriors will be ready to detect and respond effectively to a wide range of deadly agents.” She added: “We’re proud to expand our support on this vital U.S. Army program and to know that our drone, remote sensing, and integrated solutions are playing a major role to improve standoff and situational awareness.”

Work under the NBCRV Sensor Suite Upgrade Programme will be carried out at Teledyne FLIR facilities in Stillwater, Oklahoma; Elkridge, Maryland; and Tucson, Arizona. The project is expected to continue through to 2028.
