Raytheon wins $3.5 billion AMRAAM missile deal, the largest contract in the programme’s history

Raytheon Technologies (RTX) was awarded a USD 1.15 billion contract for AIM-120 D-3 and C-8 AMRAAM missiles. This is the largest AMRAAM missile contract to date and the fifth production lot of the highly advanced missiles developed under the Form, Fit, Function Refresh, also known as F3R, which updates both the missile's hardware and allows for Agile software upgrades.

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon, an RTX business, a $3.5 billion contract for the production of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), marking the largest contract in the programme's history. The deal includes Foreign Military Sales to several nations, among them Japan, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

The contract highlights continued global demand for the combat-proven AMRAAM, which has been a key air dominance weapon for over 30 years. It follows a separate $1.2 billion production award made to Raytheon less than a year ago.

“As global conflicts intensify and air threats become more sophisticated, AMRAAM continues to give allied forces a decisive edge in combat,” said Sam Deneke, president of Air & Space Defense Systems at Raytheon. “This award underscores the critical role that the fifth-generation AMRAAM plays in maintaining air superiority and will ensure service members have the advanced technology needed to stay ahead of adversary threats.”

AMRAAM is currently integrated across 14 platforms and deployed by 44 countries, with a strong record of effectiveness in both air-to-air and surface-to-air missions. Its proven capability in active conflict zones reinforces its strategic importance to the U.S. and allied defence forces.
