BAE Systems has announced a strategic investment in Oxford Dynamics, a UK-based deep-tech start-up focused on artificial intelligence and robotics. The move supports BAE’s ambition to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies for defence and security applications.

The partnership will combine BAE Systems’ defence expertise with Oxford Dynamics’ AI-driven data capabilities to explore next-generation military solutions across air, land, sea, space and cyber domains. Initial work will integrate Oxford Dynamics’ technology into BAE’s Prophesea platform, which helps defence forces maintain the operational readiness of critical assets such as warships, armoured vehicles and combat aircraft.

“The landscape of warfare is rapidly evolving and embracing emerging technology is vital to keeping the UK safe,” said Andrea Thompson, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Digital Intelligence business. “By working with companies such as Oxford Dynamics, we can help ensure that the nation is ready to unlock the advantages that innovation brings and help strengthen the UK’s sovereign defence and security landscape.”

Founded in 2020, Oxford Dynamics develops intelligent autonomous systems designed to interpret data, coordinate actions and make decisions in real time. Its solutions aim to enhance mission planning and threat response in complex operational environments.

“This collaboration embodies the UK Government’s Strategic Defence Review’s call to action: accelerate innovation, deliver sovereign capability and build a more integrated and lethal force,” said Dr Edward Jackson of Oxford Dynamics. “Our shared mission at Oxford Dynamics is to bring trusted AI to the front line and working with BAE Systems gives us the platform to quickly scale our technology into systems that will make a real difference to our armed forces.”

Looking ahead, the collaboration will support the integration of Oxford Dynamics’ capabilities across BAE Systems’ wider portfolio. This is expected to deliver sovereign AI-enabled systems that offer real-time decision-making, enhanced autonomy and increased resilience in contested environments.

The equity stake BAE Systems has taken will support Oxford Dynamics’ next stage of growth while allowing it to remain an independent company. The investment also aligns with the UK Government’s goal to strengthen the national defence industry and generate high-skilled employment.
