Raytheon has been chosen by the German government to supply its SPY-6(V)1 radar system for eight F127 frigates, under a proposed foreign military sales contract with the U.S. Navy. The agreement would also cover extensive support and services to integrate the radar with the frigates' design, making Germany the first international user of the SPY-6 system.

The SPY-6(V)1 radar includes four array faces, each with 37 radar modular assemblies, offering full 360-degree situational awareness. It is part of the U.S. Navy’s SPY-6 radar family, designed for air and missile defence across seven ship classes.

“Germany’s selection of SPY-6 reaffirms the global confidence in the radar’s advanced capabilities and its critical role in enhancing naval defense,” said Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon. “Integrating the radar on F127 frigates will provide the German Navy with a multi-mission solution that enables faster and more informed decision-making at sea.”

Raytheon describes SPY-6 as the most advanced and most tested maritime radar globally. The system is developed at the company’s 30,000-square foot Radar Development Facility in Andover, Massachusetts, which operates continuously to produce radar technologies for U.S. and allied forces.
