Raytheon, a business of RTX, has begun construction on a $53 million expansion of its Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) Production Facility in Andover, Massachusetts. The project will add 23,000 square feet to the existing site and is scheduled for completion in late 2026.

The LTAMDS is a next-generation radar system developed to counter advanced threats, including hypersonic weapons. The Andover facility is the final integration point for LTAMDS units destined for both U.S. and international customers.

Raytheon is increasing production capacity at the site to speed up delivery of the radar system. The campus, which first opened in 1980, also currently supports testing for the Patriot air defence system.

“This vital investment will significantly bolster our ability to meet the growing global demand for LTAMDS,” said Tom Laliberty, president of Land and Air Defense Systems at Raytheon. “The expansion will accelerate delivery of this critical radar to U.S. and international customers, ensuring they are equipped with the most advanced defense technology available.”

The expansion reflects RTX’s continued commitment to developing advanced air and missile defence solutions. The upgraded facility aims to support increased international collaboration and readiness through enhanced production capabilities.
