KNDS Deutschland will modernise all Boxer sgSanKfz ambulance vehicles after ARTEC, the system’s original equipment manufacturer and a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme, signed a contract with the company.

The agreement covers the upgrade of 72 vehicles with new medical equipment and the latest digital radios procured under the German Army’s Digitalisation of Land-Based Operations programme.

The contract is valued at about €117 million, with first deliveries of the upgraded vehicles expected in 2027. The variable mission module will allow crews to treat different numbers of casualties depending on injury type, and will also support intensive care.

KNDS says the Boxer Ambulance provides the same protection level as the infantry variant, which the company describes as making it one of the best protected medical vehicles available. The sgSanKfz will retain this protection standard while receiving its new systems.
