The company stated that the activity addressed the Navy’s growing requirement for an uncrewed, towed mine countermeasures capability. Testing showed that the high-performing AN/AQS-24, previously towed by helicopters, can effectively operate when paired with a MCM USV.
According to Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Navy confirmed that the AN/AQS-24 met all primary government objectives during the demonstration. The system was assessed as providing a safer and more efficient mine-hunting capability.
