The campaign demonstrated the capabilities of the Thales Ground Fire radar, which is integrated into each SAMP/T NG system and has been in series production since early 2025. The radar offers a surveillance range of up to 400 km with 360-degree panoramic coverage and 90-degree elevation, enabling the detection, tracking and classification of a wide range of targets in complex operational environments.
Developed by Eurosam, a joint venture between Thales and MBDA, the SAMP/T NG programme is supervised by OCCAR. The system has positioned itself as the only European solution providing medium- and long-range protection against ballistic, manoeuvring and saturating threats.
This latest firing represents another milestone towards the operational deployment of the SAMP/T NG system in France and Italy, with initial deliveries planned for 2026. Raphael Desi said, “The success of this firing campaign of the French variant of the SAMP/T NG at Biscarosse confirms the remarkable capabilities of this system, which contributes to the industrial and defence sovereignty of European nations.”
