“Modernizing air and missile defense is vital to Spain’s security and sovereignty,” said Pete Bata, senior vice president of Global Patriot at Raytheon. He added, “Raytheon’s work with the Spanish government and local industry will help ensure readiness against evolving threats,” and noted that the company “is continuing to support Spain’s government while working with their robust defense industry to deliver Patriot.”
Raytheon is working with Spanish defence firms, including Sener, which contributes to the electro-mechanical control system of the GEM-T missile as part of the global Patriot supply chain. Patriot is the only combat-proven ground-based air and missile defence system capable of countering long-range cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles and a wide range of air-breathing threats.
Backed by an advanced command-and-control system, Patriot has intercepted hundreds of aerial threats in conflicts worldwide and serves as the backbone of air defence for 19 countries. The Spanish contract follows additional Patriot orders placed in 2025 by Germany, Netherlands and Romania.
