Rheinmetall and EM&E Group, through Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, have submitted a joint proposal to Spain’s Ministry of Defence for the SILAM High Mobility Rocket Launcher System as a national alternative to the existing programme. The proposal has been developed with the aim of defining a viable Spanish solution in the shortest possible time.

To this end, the joint venture has worked in close and continuous coordination with the Directorate General of Armament and Material of the State Secretariat for Defence. This cooperation enabled a detailed assessment of operational requirements and existing capabilities to ensure alignment with Spain’s strategic interests.

As a result, the UTE SILAM joint venture has submitted a phased development proposal for a fully national rocket artillery system. It covers operational and test launchers, ammunition, reconnaissance and command post vehicles, as well as the development and qualification of training and guided rockets to reach full technological maturity.

The SILAM programme forms part of Spain’s Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence and aims to strengthen the national industrial and technological base. It is intended to support Spanish Armed Forces requirements, contribute to EU and NATO defence capabilities, and secure sovereign expertise across the full system lifecycle.
