The upgrade will increase the facility’s integration and delivery capacity by more than 50 percent. It also expands Raytheon’s presence in the state, bringing the company’s workforce in Alabama to more than 2,200 employees.
Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, said the investment will help the company deliver advanced missile systems more rapidly to its customers. “This expansion marks an important step in our ability to deliver more missiles to our customers faster, and our investment here demonstrates our commitment to making that a reality,” she stated.
Borgonovi also highlighted the importance of strengthening defence readiness in an evolving security environment. “With this significant expansion complete, we are well-positioned to help our customers stay ahead of emerging threats and strengthen the nation’s defense posture,” she added.
Since opening in 2012, the Redstone facility has become a central hub for Raytheon’s missile production and integration activities. The site supports the integration of nine variants of the Standard Missile family along with other advanced weapon systems.
The latest expansion reflects the company’s continued investment in increasing production capacity and accelerating manufacturing processes. These improvements are designed to meet both immediate operational needs and long-term demand for critical munitions.
U.S. Representative Dale Strong of Alabama’s 5th congressional district emphasised the importance of the facility to both national security and the local economy. “Raytheon’s continued investment in North Alabama strengthens both our local economy and our nation’s defense,” he said.
Strong also noted the importance of providing modern capabilities to U.S. service members while supporting skilled jobs in the region. “This expansion will ensure our men and women in uniform have the advanced missile capabilities they need, when they need them, while supporting high-quality jobs in our community,” he stated.
He added that the expansion highlights the strategic importance of the Huntsville region within the United States defence industrial base. “This milestone reflects the critical role the Huntsville region plays in America’s defense industrial base and demonstrates what can be achieved when we work together to keep our nation safe and prepared for the challenges ahead,” Strong said.
The announcement follows Raytheon’s recent signing of five framework agreements with the U.S. Department of Defense aimed at expanding munitions production. Under these agreements, missile production will take place across multiple company sites, including facilities in Tucson, Arizona, Huntsville, Alabama, and Andover, Massachusetts.
