The demonstration focused on the 120 mm Ragnarok mortar system and the newly developed Mortar Mission Module. Rheinmetall described the system as a scalable European solution designed to deliver speed, precision, reliability and cost-effectiveness on the battlefield.
The live-fire demonstration took place in Rena, Norway, under demanding winter conditions. Temperatures fell well below freezing and high humidity created challenging operational circumstances during the test.
During the event, the Mortar Mission Module integrated on an HX truck platform demonstrated its accuracy and rapid response capability. The system is designed to enable rapid deployment and efficient firing operations while maintaining high levels of mobility.
According to Rheinmetall, the system provides true “shoot-and-scoot” capability, allowing operators to leave the firing position immediately after the last round has been fired. This feature is intended to improve survivability on modern battlefields where counter-battery threats are increasingly common.
The design of the Mortar Mission Module also allows for platform and barrel independence, providing flexibility in how the system can be deployed. Rheinmetall stated that the system can be integrated into both existing and future military platforms without significant logistical complexity.
The demonstration also highlighted the importance of European cooperation in strengthening defence capabilities. Rheinmetall Nordic noted that growing geopolitical pressures and increasing demand for battlefield capabilities are driving the need for practical and rapidly deployable systems.
Morten Kjorum, Chief Executive Officer of Rheinmetall Nordic, emphasized the strategic importance of developing effective solutions for modern security challenges. “Today’s security environment requires us to act in a targeted manner,” he said.
Kjorum added that strengthening European defence capability requires practical and cost-effective solutions. “Europe’s strategic autonomy depends on providing solutions that maximise operational impact while being practical, cost-effective and rapidly deployable.”
He also highlighted the collaborative nature of the system’s development. “The Mortar Mission Module is the result of close collaboration between Rheinmetall and European industry partners and users, based on transparency, shared goals and technological excellence.”
Kjorum concluded that cooperation between European partners remains essential to strengthening defence capabilities. “Together we are stronger,” he said.
“Our goal is clear: we want to deliver systems that meet the operational requirements of European soldiers at the speed that the current situation demands.”
Rheinmetall said its global production network positions the company to respond to increasing demand for advanced indirect fire systems. The company added that maintaining a resilient and sovereign supply chain will remain a key element in supporting European defence requirements.
