German defence technology company Hensoldt has signed a long-term supply agreement with United Monolithic Semiconductors (UMS) to support radar production. Under the deal, UMS will deliver a total of 900,000 gallium nitride semiconductor components for “Hensoldt” radar systems by 2030.

The agreement is intended to strengthen supply chain resilience and support the expansion of production capacity. It comes as global demand for advanced sensor and radar technologies continues to rise.

The gallium nitride semiconductors will be used in transmit and receive modules of modern Hensoldt radar systems. These components enable high-performance high-frequency amplifiers and contribute significantly to system range, precision and energy efficiency.

According to the companies, the semiconductor components are being jointly developed and tested by Hensoldt and UMS. Once validated, they will be integrated into radar platforms, particularly within the Spexer radar family.

“Demand for high-performance sensor solutions is growing significantly worldwide. To ensure we can reliably supply our customers, we are systematically expanding our production capacities whilst simultaneously securing our supply chains,” said Hensoldt Chief Financial Officer Christian Ladurner. “The long-term agreement with UMS is a key component of this strategy and supports the expansion of series production of modern radar systems, which are used worldwide for air defence and security applications.”

UMS said the agreement builds on an established partnership between the two companies in high-frequency semiconductor applications. The collaboration supports both technological innovation and industrial production capacity for radar systems.

“UMS and Hensoldt are long term partners in market introduction and production of innovative high frequency applications,“ said Xavier Crosnier, CEO of UMS. “Through this long term agreement, we are pleased to contribute to Hensoldt expansion of production capacities and strengthening of supply chain resilience with our GaN industrial capabilities.”
