SIGMA is described as the only fielded wheeled self-propelled howitzer manufactured in the United States. Built in Charleston, South Carolina, the platform is designed to provide mobility, survivability and operational flexibility for artillery units.
The system is based on a 10×10 wheeled platform and is capable of moving alongside brigade combat teams across complex terrain. It can also execute “shoot and scoot” operations in less than 60 seconds, enhancing survivability in contested environments.
SIGMA features a fully automated 155mm turret with 360-degree firing capability. It is designed to fire all variations of 155mm munitions currently used by the U.S. Army and carries a 40-round onboard magazine.
The system can deliver a firing rate of up to eight rounds per minute while maintaining crew protection within an armored cab. Its three-person crew operates the platform using automated systems intended to reduce workload and improve efficiency.
“SIGMA was designed to deliver real overmatch, so Soldiers can fight, survive, and win in the most contested environments,” said Luke Savoie, President and CEO of Elbit America. “This platform provides the might and modernization our U.S. Army artillery formations demand. SIGMA is built for Warriors, made with American grit, and it’s ready now.”
The SIGMA system is developed in partnership with Oshkosh Defense, which provides the vehicle base. The platform is being displayed at the Oshkosh booth alongside Elbit America’s exhibit at the event.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for military stakeholders to assess SIGMA’s capabilities as part of ongoing modernization efforts. Elbit America said the system is ready for deployment and reflects current requirements for advanced artillery systems.
