Kongsberg Gruppen is expanding its operations in Fredrikstad, marking its first presence in the city. The company plans to hire around 30 engineers as part of the new establishment.

The facility in Fredrikstad can accommodate up to 100 employees and is designed for product development, verification and testing. Staff based there will work closely with Kongsberg’s division in Moss, which will remain the regional head office.

“The expertise these employees bring aligns very well with roles that are in high demand at KONGSBERG. As soon as we became aware that Barco would discontinue its operations in Fredrikstad, we quickly recognised this as an exciting opportunity to recruit a large number of highly skilled professionals at once,” said Bernhard Fog, Vice President.

Local authorities welcomed the move, citing the city’s existing technical base and academic links. Officials said the investment would reinforce Fredrikstad’s position as a centre for engineering talent.

“We are very pleased that KONGSBERG has chosen to establish operations in Fredrikstad. Fredrikstad already has a strong engineering environment, with several high-technology companies as well as Østfold University College in the region,” said Fredrikstad Mayor Arne Sekkelsten.

The expansion builds on Kongsberg’s ongoing investment in Moss, where it began operations in 2022. The site has since reached 100 employees, with plans to grow to 200, reflecting continued regional development ambitions.
