The U.S. Army and U.S. Navy have conducted a successful test launch of a common hypersonic missile from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch took place on March 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to develop advanced strike capabilities.

The U.S. Army and U.S. Navy have conducted a successful test launch of a common hypersonic missile from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch took place on March 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to develop advanced strike capabilities.

 

The test was carried out by the Army’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Fires in partnership with the Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Strategic Systems Programs. Officials said the joint effort reflects increased coordination between the services in developing next-generation weapons systems.

The program aims to field a shared hypersonic missile across both land-based and sea-based platforms. The approach is intended to support the National Defense Strategy by accelerating development timelines and reducing costs.

According to the statement, the missile is designed to deliver a highly survivable capability against time-sensitive and heavily defended targets. It is capable of operating at speeds exceeding Mach 5, enabling rapid engagement of high-value objectives.

The Army and Navy said the collaboration is focused on enhancing operational effectiveness through shared technology development. The program is part of broader efforts to strengthen U.S. capabilities in advanced weapons systems.
