The U.S. Department of War has signed a new contract with Saab for the production and delivery of Giraffe 1X multi-function radar systems. The agreement covers ten radars to be supplied to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia by the end of February 2027.

The contract, valued at $24 million, represents an exercised option from a broader agreement concluded in October 2025. Full funding was allocated at the time of signing, sourced entirely from U.S. military assistance programmes for allied nations.

The Giraffe 1X radar is designed as a compact and flexible system. Its configuration allows integration into both land-based and maritime air defence platforms.

Its relatively small size and weight enable installation on a wide range of vehicles. This flexibility supports its deployment across diverse operational environments.

The systems are intended to strengthen air defence capabilities in the Baltic region. They will contribute to improving detection and response against aerial threats.

The Giraffe 1X has seen increasing demand on international markets. It is being adopted by a growing number of users as part of air defence systems and naval modernisation efforts.

The contract reflects ongoing U.S. support for regional security in Europe. It also highlights continued demand for adaptable radar systems within integrated defence networks.
