Aero Vodochody implements IFS Cloud and Siemens PLM for digital transformation

By Defence Industry Europe

Aero, the largest Czech aircraft manufacturer, celebrates its 105th anniversary this year since its founding on February 25, 1919. Throughout its history, Aero has produced over 11,000 aircraft – L-29 Delfín, L-39 Albatros, L-159 ALKA and L-39NG – for customers in 60 countries around the world with a total flight time of more than 13 million flight hours. Aero, a member of the Aerospace Industry Association of the Czech Republic (ALKP), employs more than 1,700 people at its production plant in Vodochody and development centre in Brno.

Aero Vodochody, the Czech Republic's largest and one of the world's oldest aircraft manufacturers, has announced its adoption of IFS Cloud to streamline operations and enhance competitiveness in the aerospace industry. The integration of IFS Cloud with Siemens’ Teamcenter product lifecycle management (PLM) solution marks a significant step in Aero’s digital transformation journey.

This collaboration aims to transition Aero towards paperless production and assembly, leveraging advanced digital twin technology and visualization tools. These solutions will provide shop floor employees with digital work instructions, simplifying approval processes and improving operational efficiency.

The implementation will standardize processes across Aero’s operations, aligning them with global best practices. This approach is designed to optimise production efficiency, reduce errors, and maintain consistent product quality, ensuring Aero stays competitive in the highly demanding aerospace sector.

“We are making one of the largest IT investments in Aero’s history,” said Viktor Sotona, Chairman of the Board and President of Aero. “This significant investment is a key step towards digitalization, future growth, and increased competitiveness of our company. The implementation of cutting-edge IT systems will bring significant improvements across all key areas – from product development to supply chain management.”

The integrated solution will form a robust digital backbone for Aero’s operations, supporting the design, development, and manufacture of aircraft and components, as well as maintenance and overhaul services. With nearly 900 full users of IFS Cloud and over 900 shop floor users, alongside 700 Siemens PLM users, the implementation will span Aero’s research, development, manufacturing, and production teams.

Marek Głazowski, Managing Director at IFS, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: “We are thrilled to be supporting Aero on their transformation journey. With a strong heritage in a complex industry, Aero is well-positioned to achieve rapid value and growth by upgrading legacy systems to state-of-the-art ERP and PLM technologies.”

Siemens also highlighted the collaboration’s potential. “Our advanced PLM solutions, combined with IFS Cloud’s ERP capabilities, will enhance Aero’s production workflows and accelerate innovation cycles,” said Pavel Rozsypal, Account Orchestrator at Siemens. “This partnership will help Aero maintain a competitive edge in the global aerospace market.”

The implementation is being spearheaded by InfoConsulting, IFS’s platinum partner in the Czech Republic. “As a platinum partner of IFS, we are proud to play a pivotal role in delivering this integrated solution,” said Jozef Kováčik, Managing Director at InfoConsulting Czech. “This project will significantly enhance Aero’s operational efficiency and position them for future success.”
