The XQ-58A Valkyrie is a low-observable, rail-launched drone capable of operating autonomously or in coordination with fighter jets. With a maximum take-off weight of three tonnes, the aircraft can reach altitudes up to 45,000 feet and has a range of 3,000 miles.
Airbus’ mission system features a platform-agnostic architecture, enabling integration with both existing and future crewed and uncrewed platforms. The system is designed to expand the capabilities of European forces within a broader operational ecosystem.
“In the given disruptive geopolitical context, our customers have expressed an urgent demand for both attritable and non-attritable Collaborative Combat Aircraft,” said Mike Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space. “This partnership will help to accelerate Europe’s ability to defend itself while fostering NATO’s transatlantic ties.”
Kratos CEO Eric DeMarco highlighted the Valkyrie’s affordability and combat performance, which has been flight-tested since 2019. “We’re excited about our partnership with Airbus which will result again in a first to market Valkyrie variant, now ‘tuned’ for the European mission,” he said.
