On 13 December, Poland’s defence procurement agency signed a contract with Airbus Defence and Space for the upgrade of 16 C-295M CASA aircraft belonging to the Polish Armed Forces.

According to a statement released by Poland’s defence procurement agency, the contract is valued at EUR 102.7 million and will be executed between 2025 and 2033. The upgrade and modernisation works will be carried out on all C-295M CASA aircraft of the Polish Armed Forces.

The upgrade project aims to equip the fleet of Polish C-295M aircraft with modern avionics systems. The aircraft will be fitted with next-generation IFF systems, as well as radio and satellite communications solutions. Additionally, the C-295M CASA aircraft will be equipped with self-protection systems.

Poland’s defence procurement agency stated that the upgrade of two aircraft will be carried out at Airbus’ facility in Spain, while the modernisation of the remaining 14 aircraft is set to be completed at a facility in Warsaw, Poland.

The C-295M CASA aircraft enable the Polish Armed Forces to meet their transport needs. They are capable of transporting approximately 70 soldiers, over 40 paratroopers, or more than 20 injured personnel on stretchers along with additional medical staff. The aircraft can also handle a cargo load of up to eight tonnes.
