Airbus U.S. Space & Defense has been awarded a USD 315 million contract modification by the U.S. Army to provide logistics and engineering support for its fleet of UH-72 Lakota helicopters. The work will be carried out at Airbus's facility in Grand Prairie, Texas, with completion expected by 31st December 2025.

This latest award builds on a USD 14.3 million contract issued in 2022, reinforcing Airbus’s long-standing partnership with the Army. The UH-72 Lakota helicopters play a critical role in public safety, transportation, and law enforcement missions, underlining their versatility and importance in military operations.

In addition to this new contract, Airbus secured a USD 1.5 billion follow-on agreement in 2022 to supply engineering support, spare parts, and related services for the Lakota fleet. This extensive commitment highlights the U.S. Army’s reliance on the Lakota as a key component of its aviation capabilities.

The award also comes months after Airbus demonstrated an uncrewed aerial system (UAS) version of the Lakota. This advanced prototype, developed under the Aerial Logistics Connector rapid prototyping programme, showcased the ability to carry 2,000-pound missiles and perform electronic warfare operations, with enhanced control systems for specialised missions.

The Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama is overseeing this latest agreement. With this modification, Airbus continues to provide essential support for one of the Army’s most versatile helicopter platforms, ensuring operational readiness and advancing aerial logistics capabilities.
