IVAS is a next-generation, body-worn system designed to enhance soldiers’ situational awareness and decision-making through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The technology provides beyond-line-of-sight perception, improves combat effectiveness, and enhances survivability against emerging threats such as drones.
This partnership combines Anduril’s expertise in defence technology and military requirements with Microsoft’s advanced cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Anduril’s approach to manufacturing will focus on scaling production while reducing unit costs, ensuring the system meets the evolving needs of the U.S. Army.
Microsoft’s Azure cloud will play a key role in enabling seamless data integration, AI-powered insights, and secure operations across commercial, government, and classified environments. The collaboration aims to improve real-time decision-making by providing soldiers with more intuitive and data-rich tools on the battlefield.
Since its founding in 2017, Anduril has specialised in developing advanced defence solutions, with its founder, Palmer Luckey, bringing extensive experience from the virtual reality industry. Luckey highlighted that the goal of IVAS is to integrate technology with human capability, allowing soldiers to make faster, more informed decisions in combat scenarios.
Robin Seiler, Corporate Vice President of Mixed Reality at Microsoft, emphasised the importance of a soldier-centred design approach, incorporating real-world feedback to refine IVAS into a practical and effective tool. She expressed confidence in the partnership with Anduril to continue delivering innovative solutions for the U.S. Army.
Microsoft and Anduril have previously collaborated to integrate AI-driven situational awareness capabilities into IVAS.
