Anduril Industries selects Ohio for droundbreaking Arsenal-1 manufacturing facility

By Defence Industry Europe

Anduril Industries, a leader in autonomous systems and defence technology, has announced plans to establish its first hyperscale manufacturing facility, Arsenal-1, in Columbus, Ohio. This state-of-the-art factory aims to redefine the production of autonomous systems and weapons for the United States and its allies.

The $1 billion investment by Anduril represents the largest single job-creation project in Ohio’s history, promising over 4,000 direct jobs. Governor Mike DeWine hailed the move as a transformative step for the state, highlighting Ohio’s skilled workforce and robust infrastructure as key factors in the decision.

Arsenal-1 will span 5 million square feet and utilise advanced software-defined manufacturing processes to support the mass production of autonomous systems and weapons. Located near Rickenbacker Airport, the site provides direct access to military-scale aviation facilities, ensuring efficient distribution of components and systems.

Brian Schimpf, CEO of Anduril, emphasised the facility’s significance. “Arsenal-1 will set a new standard for defence manufacturing, enabling rapid responses to future challenges while strengthening national security,” he said. The factory will prioritise flexibility, allowing for quick adaptation to new requirements or surges in demand.

Ohio’s deep legacy in aerospace and defence, home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and other leading research centres, further cements its role in this historic venture. Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted called the project a testament to Ohio’s leadership in advanced technology and national security.

Construction is set to begin pending final approvals, with production expected to start by July 2026. Arsenal-1 joins Anduril’s expanding global network of advanced manufacturing facilities, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and operational excellence.

This groundbreaking initiative will not only bolster U.S. defence capabilities but also establish Ohio as a central hub for cutting-edge manufacturing and aerospace technology.
