Anduril to partner with Korean Air on UAS, open Seoul office and expand presence in South Korea

By Defence Industry Europe

Anduril has announced plans to expand its operations in South Korea, opening a new office in Seoul, appointing a new country leader, and forming partnerships with local industry to develop defence products for the Korean market. The move coincides with a visit from founder Palmer Luckey, who is meeting key officials and industry leaders during a two-day trip to the Republic of Korea.

The company’s first office in Seoul will be led by John Kim, appointed as Vice President and Head of Anduril Korea. Kim previously led the defence business at Boeing Korea and served as its interim president, bringing extensive experience with the US military and Korea’s defence industry.

Anduril plans to expand its Korean team, aiming to double headcount within the next 12 months. The company will focus on technologies such as artificial intelligence, cost-effective autonomous systems, and networked weapons, which are priorities for the Korean Ministry of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

As part of its expansion, Anduril will sign a contract with Korean Air’s Aerospace Business Division to co-develop UAS products, license production of additional Anduril products for the Indo-Pacific, and explore establishing a manufacturing facility in South Korea. This agreement aims to create a mutually cooperative system in the region.

“Anduril is committed to helping the Republic of Korea in its mission to develop a technologically advanced, highly networked armed force with fewer but more precise platforms, leveraging technology like autonomy and artificial intelligence, our new office and team expansion is further demonstration of this ongoing commitment,” said John Kim, Vice President and Head of Anduril Korea. “Korean Air is the leading UAS development company in Korea, and Anduril, which possesses leading AI and manned-unmanned hybrid software technology, will meet the Korean military’s drone mission autonomy requirements and mark a new turning point in the global drone market,” officials from Korean Air stated.
