ARX Robotics unveils Mithra OS: a game-changer in military vehicle autonomy

By Defence Industry Europe

ARX Robotics, a Munich-based defence tech startup, has announced the launch of ARX Mithra OS, the world’s first independent AI-based operating system for military vehicles. The system enables the digital transformation of existing vehicle fleets into intelligent, interconnected, and autonomous units, enhancing their operational capabilities.

The ARX Mithra OS introduces the Legacy Autonomy Kit, a retrofit solution that transforms traditional vehicles into advanced battlefield wingmen. This cost-effective approach reduces reliance on human personnel, increases troop safety, and provides armed forces with rapid deployment capabilities for modern, autonomous operations.

“The battlefield of the future is digital and will increasingly rely on unmanned systems. Yet, European armies continue to procure analog systems and vehicles as they have for decades—systems that will remain in service for many years to come,” said Marc Wietfeld, founder and CEO of ARX Robotics. “Our Mithra operating system bridges the gap between outdated fleets and future-ready, digitally connected units.”

Mithra OS is designed to meet the challenges of modern defence by enabling seamless integration across diverse vehicle types. It supports both manned-unmanned and unmanned-unmanned teaming, facilitating intelligent cooperation between units. The system’s scalability, over-the-air updates, and compatibility with legacy systems make it an adaptable solution for modernising defence arsenals.

Lieutenant General (Ret.) Frank Leidenberger, CEO of BWI, emphasised the importance of updating existing resources: “The increased willingness for military spending after the Russian invasion is wearing off; states are setting different priorities or simply running out of budget. Therefore, it will be key to not only invest in new technologies but to update existing material and adapt it to modern warfare.”

In addition to the Legacy Autonomy Kit, Mithra OS offers the Interconnectivity & Swarming Pilot for connected fleet intelligence and the Situational Awareness Suite for enhanced reconnaissance. These features provide armed forces with versatile tools for rapid modernisation and improved operational efficiency.
