Aselsan launches USD 40 million electro-optic FLIR manufacturing facility

By Defence Industry Europe

Turkish defence company Aselsan has inaugurated its new electro-optic FLIR manufacturing facility, marking a milestone USD 40 million investment to expand its production capacity. The facility, which covers 7,000 square meters, boasts the largest cleanroom in Europe under a single roof, highlighting Aselsan’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.

The state-of-the-art facility positions Aselsan among the world’s few manufacturers capable of large-scale production of high-quality optical materials and coatings. With advanced production, testing, and characterisation capabilities, the facility is set to produce a wide range of high-tech electro-optical systems, including essential laser and optical components, in substantial monthly quantities.

This strategic investment significantly reduces Turkey’s reliance on foreign suppliers for critical optical systems while strengthening Aselsan’s competitiveness in the global market. The facility will prioritise production for aerial platform systems, focusing on the company’s signature ASELFLIR, TOYGUN, and KARAT product families.

In addition to precision optical component production, the cleanroom infrastructure will support high-capacity and high-performance manufacturing of various electro-optical systems. Over the next three years, Aselsan plans to invest an additional USD 30 million in the facility, transforming it into a unique technology hub with expanded production and testing capabilities.
