The system delivers mission-critical intelligence directly to front-line units and enables real-time terrain analysis, sensor integration, drone intelligence, and autonomous mission planning at the battalion level. A key feature is the real-time creation of accurate, photo-realistic 3D terrain models generated instantly by drones scanning the battlefield.
This new capability is central to the IDF’s evolving intelligence doctrine, allowing commanders immediate visual understanding of terrain conditions and supporting planning based on live data. Taurus operates in parallel with the IDF’s Orion system, known as “Olar,” which supports large-scale mission management from squad to battalion level.
While Orion ensures intelligence flow across manoeuvring forces, Taurus gives intelligence officers the ability to conduct field-based 3D mapping and operational assessments independently. It offers full autonomy to battalion-level commanders, from sergeants to leaders, to conduct calculations and plan missions without relying on central systems or external communications.
The Taurus system can simultaneously update dozens of Orion units with new intelligence layers, apps, and large-scale data in record time, while also integrating with other IDF platforms. Future updates will enable commanders to manage and monitor operations through a unified interface directly within Taurus.
Brig. Gen. Yehuda Elmakayes, Head of the DDR&D R&D Division, said: “As part of the ongoing effort to advance network-centric warfare for ground forces, we have invested in developing advanced mapping infrastructures with an emphasis on the tactical edge. Orion provides advanced mapping tools directly to the soldier, while Taurus enables real-time mapping updates in response to the rapidly changing battlefield.”
He added: “The next step is to link Orion to the digital ground forces ecosystem, ensuring operational continuity through C4I systems. Another key integration is the Lynx system, which offers advanced situational awareness and rapid targeting capabilities.”
Tomer Malchi, Founder & CEO of Asio Technologies, said: “The deployment of Taurus marks a significant advancement in tactical battlefield intelligence. By delivering real-time, mission-critical data directly to front-line units – including 3D terrain modeling and other capabilities – we’re providing intelligence autonomy and ground dominance, contributing to safer and more effective mission completion.”
He added: “This system was developed in close partnership with Israel’s defense establishment and represents our shared commitment to providing combat units with the tools they need to operate effectively in dynamic, high-threat environments.”
The Orion system continues to play a central role in maintaining the IDF’s operational advantage over threats such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and other regional adversaries. It supports mission planning, line-of-sight analysis, AR-enhanced navigation, and combat positioning, all within a compact, Android-based interface suited for combat.
The Orion platform also includes Lynx (“Maayan”), a tactical binocular system that enhances situational awareness. Developed through collaboration between Asio, the DDRD, and several IDF directorates, Orion and Taurus together represent a technological leap in tactical command and battlefield intelligence.
