Lockheed Martin said it conducted a successful 112-km flight test of its Extended Range GMLRS at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, marking the first time an M270A2 launcher fired the Alternative Warhead rocket variant and completing system qualification testing for that configuration. The company said the test validated precision, launcher integration and lethality, follows a successful January trial, and moves the AW variant closer to fielding by the U.S. Army and international partners.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the Munich Security Conference that the United States and Europe remain bound by a “historic alliance, an alliance that saved and changed the world,” as he called for renewed Western strength amid geopolitical strain. Recalling that the conference began in 1963 when “the line between communism and freedom ran through the heart of Germany” and the Cuban Missile Crisis had brought the world “to the brink of nuclear destruction,” Rubio said the West once prevailed because it was “unified not just by what we were fighting against; we were unified by what we were fighting for,” and argued that “decline was a choice” then and is a choice now.

The U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona is testing prototypes of the Next Generation Rocket Assisted Projectile, aimed at significantly extending the range of 155 mm artillery rounds beyond the roughly 30 kilometers currently achievable with rocket assistance. For decades, artillery testing has been the core mission at YPG, which has remained at the forefront of evaluating guided and semi-guided munitions capable of striking within meters of targets kilometers away.
