The new facility, launched in collaboration with Ukraine Defence Industries (UDI), Ukraine’s state-owned defence holding company, aims to ensure that critical military assets are readily available where they are most needed. This partnership will facilitate faster repair and restoration of Ukraine’s military vehicles, thereby enhancing the nation’s defence readiness.
David Lockwood, Chief Executive Officer of Babcock, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative. “Getting military equipment and assets back to Ukrainian armed forces in the most efficient way possible is why we are making this in-country investment in an armoured vehicle engineering facility. This will enable even faster turnaround times on repair and restoration of critical military assets to the front line,” Lockwood stated.
Babcock’s involvement in Ukraine’s defence sector is not new. Since July 2023, the company has been providing technical and engineering support to Ukraine’s military from the wider region. The establishment of Babcock Ukraine in 2023 marked the beginning of their direct support for Ukrainian naval assets and the training of the next generation of Ukrainian Air Force fighter jet pilots.
This latest investment in a local engineering facility builds on Babcock’s extensive experience in maintaining, repairing, and managing the British Army’s vehicles and equipment. By leveraging this expertise, Babcock is well-positioned to deliver high-quality engineering support to Ukraine’s military forces.
Work is already underway to operationalize the new facility, which will significantly enhance Ukraine’s defence capabilities by ensuring a continuous flow of operational military assets. This proactive step is expected to play a crucial role in sustaining Ukraine’s defence efforts and improving the efficiency of its military operations.
