BAE Systems has entered into an agreement to acquire Sweden-based Aston Harald Mekaniska Verkstad, signing a share purchase agreement through its BAE Systems Bofors business. The target company, headquartered in Kristinehamn and employing around 100 people, provides precision machined, large and complex structures for aerospace, defence and commercial products.

Aston Harald Mekaniska Verkstad has been a key supplier to the BAE Systems Bofors business for many years, as well as to other leading defence and commercial customers. The proposed acquisition supports BAE Systems’ strategy to expand its capacity and capabilities in the European defence market and to strengthen supply chain resilience in delivering the Bofors ARCHER, TRIDON, 40 Mk4 and 57 Mk3 systems.

The companies said they share a strong cultural alignment rooted in their Swedish heritage, mission focus and commitment to product excellence. They added that the acquisition is expected to benefit Aston Harald Mekaniska Verkstad, BAE Systems and their customers by enhancing capabilities to efficiently deliver equipment needed to support the defence missions of Sweden and other NATO Allied countries, as well as complex fabrication for commercial customers across Europe.

Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and other pre-closing activities required for this type of deal. The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of this year once those processes have been finalised.
