BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn visits Türkiye for Eurofighter Typhoon talks

By Defence Industry Europe

Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler held a high-level meeting on Saturday with BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn and UK Ambassador to Türkiye Jill Morris to discuss key defence cooperation matters. The talks took place at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters in Ankara and were also attended by Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.

The Ministry confirmed the visit in a statement shared on social media: “Defence Minister Yaşar Güler received BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn and UK Ambassador Jill Morris. Air Force Commander Gen. Ziya Cemal Kadioglu also participated in the reception.”

The meeting forms part of Türkiye’s continuing negotiations over the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the United Kingdom and its partner nations. These discussions are viewed as a critical step in advancing Türkiye’s interest in acquiring the multirole aircraft.

In late 2024, a technical delegation representing the Eurofighter consortium—comprising the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany—held three weeks of negotiations in Ankara. On 13 March 2025, Turkish defence officials announced they had received an offer from the UK for the sale of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.
