BWX Technologies has secured a contract worth approximately $189 million to manufacture and deliver fuel for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The work will be carried out by its Nuclear Fuel Services subsidiary in Erwin, Tennessee, and is scheduled for completion in August 2027.

The facility processes highly enriched uranium to produce fuel for all U.S. naval nuclear reactors. It has supported Navy fuel manufacturing for more than 60 years.

BWXT’s fuel and reactors power Ohio, Virginia, Seawolf, Los Angeles and Columbia-class submarines. The company also supplies the nuclear propulsion program for Nimitz and Ford-class aircraft carriers.

Howard Markle, president of BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group, said the contract reflected the Navy’s confidence in the company’s performance and its role in supporting fleet readiness. “The BWXT team is honored to support this essential national security mission,” he said.

Nuclear Fuel Services operates as a highly secure Category 1 nuclear facility. The site is licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
