Canada: TKMS and Marmen sign teaming agreement to support 212CD submarine production

TKMS and Marmen have signed a strategic Teaming Agreement to collaborate on the production of major submarine workshare for the Royal Canadian Navy. The agreement covers the manufacture of selected submarine sections and complex assemblies for the 212CD platform in Canada, with work centred in Québec.

 

Under the arrangement, Marmen will apply its high-precision manufacturing expertise to one of the world’s most advanced conventional submarines in service. The Memorandum of Understanding highlights TKMS’s intention to include the Canadian defence industry in its submarine supply chain by leveraging Marmen’s fabrication capabilities.

Thomas Keupp, Chief Sales Officer at TKMS, said: “Through this strategic partnership with Marmen, we are expanding our industrial presence in Canada and harnessing the strengths of Québec’s manufacturing ecosystem.” He added: “Marmen’s innovative approach will play a key role in supporting the 212CD program and the needs of the Royal Canadian Navy.”

The inclusion of Marmen is expected to increase production capacity for TKMS and support the transfer of knowledge to Canada to enable sovereign in-service support over the life of the programme. According to the companies, the economic impact begins with the contract signing and includes investment in equipment and manufacturing capacity, creating hundreds of new jobs.

Patrick Pellerin, President of Marmen, welcomed the collaboration, stating: “TKMS has demonstrated an unwavering commitment and visionary leadership in advancing Canada’s industrial capabilities.” He continued: “Marmen is proud to partner with TKMS on a program of such national significance.”

The partnership underlines Québec’s role within Canada’s defence and maritime supply chain, with Trois-Rivières noted for its industrial excellence and skilled workforce. Marmen employs more than 900 people across six manufacturing facilities in Canada and brings experience in high-precision machining, assembly, surface treatment, design and engineering across defence, aerospace, energy and other sectors.
