The planned centre will provide long-term support for key onboard systems, including automation, platform management, and steering and control systems. It is intended to ensure sustained operational availability and lifecycle support for submarines under the programme.
The Automation System In-Service Support capability will cover the management and execution of maintenance, operation, and sustainment activities within Canada. The approach is designed to enhance readiness while supporting domestic industrial capability.
The partnership will also incorporate Canadian artificial intelligence company CORSphere to strengthen performance monitoring and predictive maintenance. Its AI-based diagnostics and prognostics tools are expected to improve system reliability and optimise maintenance processes.
“Gastops is honored to work alongside TKMS on a program of such national importance,” said Shaun Horning, President and CEO of Gastops. “We are excited to leverage our rich history of supporting the RCN in partnership with TKMS’s world leading submarine technologies.”
“We are building a powerful ASISS capability that will provide serviceability and readiness to the Royal Canadian Navy for decades,” he added. The initiative reflects a long-term commitment to supporting Canada’s naval capabilities.
Gastops brings experience in condition monitoring and support services across defence and industrial sectors, while TKMS contributes extensive expertise in submarine design and maritime systems. The collaboration aims to combine these capabilities to deliver sustained support for the submarine programme.
The agreement underscores a broader effort to strengthen Canada’s defence industrial base and ensure long-term support for naval platforms. It also highlights continued international cooperation in advancing maritime defence technologies.
