Castelion has broken ground on Project Ranger, a 1,000-acre hypersonic manufacturing campus in Sandoval County aimed at high-cadence production of hypersonic strike systems. The project is expected to create about 300 high-paying manufacturing jobs, involve more than $220 million in private investment, and generate an estimated $650 million in economic impact for New Mexico over the next decade.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, senior U.S. defense officials, and regional leaders, marking a key step in expanding domestic hypersonic manufacturing capacity. “This is economic development in New Mexico—high-tech companies bringing high-paying jobs,” said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, adding, “Castelion chose our site because we have the workforce, the expertise and infrastructure they need to succeed.”

Project Ranger will include solid rocket motor manufacturing, static testing, and final assembly of hypersonic weapons, reinforcing New Mexico’s role in advanced defense technologies. The first building is scheduled for completion this summer, with all 21 buildings expected to be finished and production-ready by the end of 2026.

Castelion CEO and co-founder Bryon Hargis said the location reflects the state’s technical strengths and scientific legacy. “We chose New Mexico for its unparalleled technical talent and history of scientific achievement,” Hargis said, noting that “Project Ranger represents a renaissance in American manufacturing, delivering the advanced systems our country needs.”

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich emphasized the project’s combined economic and security benefits. “I’m pleased to welcome the groundbreaking of Castelion’s new manufacturing facility in Sandoval County that will strengthen our national security, grow our state’s economy, and create over 300 permanent jobs that New Mexicans can build their families around,” he said.

State, county, and regional leaders highlighted the collaboration behind the project and its long-term workforce impact. “Today marks the continued evolution of New Mexico’s innovation economy,” said New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Rob Black, while Sandoval County officials and regional partners described Project Ranger as a boost to advanced manufacturing, national security, and high-quality employment across the region.
