EM Solutions, a specialist in high-end microwave and satellite communication terminals, is renowned for its innovative technology that supports high-speed telecommunications globally. The acquisition aligns with Cohort’s strategy to accelerate growth through targeted acquisitions in key regions, including Australasia, amid rising security concerns in Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific.
Andrew Thomis, CEO of Cohort plc, highlighted the strategic importance of the move: “The proposed acquisition of EM Solutions aligns with our strategy to accelerate growth by making targeted acquisitions in the UK and overseas. Australia is an increasingly important strategic region, reflecting the increased security challenges in Southeast Asia and the Indo Pacific, and the creation of the AUKUS alliance.”
Thomis added that the acquisition would provide the group with access to the expanding satellite communications market while broadening its existing naval systems offerings. He also emphasised the enhanced opportunities for growth across regions, including the UK, NATO Europe, Asia, and South America.
EM Solutions’ leadership team, headed by John Logan and Georgios Makris, will remain in place, ensuring continuity and leveraging Cohort’s resources. The team will benefit from Cohort’s global network of research, market insights, and client relationships, supported by locally appointed Non-Executive Directors.
The deal comes during a period of strong growth for Cohort plc, which reported significant increases in revenue, adjusted operating profit, and order intake in 2024. Recent contract wins exceeding £120m have bolstered its order book to over £559m as of September 2024, reflecting the Group’s robust financial performance.
