Curtiss-Wright to supply turret drive stabilization system for Rheinmetall KF51 Panther tank

By Defence Industry Europe

Curtiss-Wright has been selected by Rheinmetall Landsysteme Germany to supply its modular Turret Drive Stabilization System (TDSS) for the KF51 Panther Main Battle Tank. The KF51 is designed to meet the requirements of modern warfare, with Curtiss-Wright’s TDSS offering precise, modular technology suited to the platform’s advanced capabilities.

“We are very proud that our ability to deliver end-users with the highest level of technology, service, reliability and quality resulted in our selection by Rheinmetall to support the new KF51 Panther Main Battle Tank,” said Brian Perry, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. “This contract builds on Curtiss-Wright’s long track record as a supplier of cost-effective and high-precision modular aiming and stabilization systems.”

Under the agreement, Curtiss-Wright’s facility in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Switzerland, will provide Rheinmetall with the TDSS and associated hand controllers. The KF51 Panther features a flexible “future-proof” assembly design that uses multiple drives for one axis, giving the TDSS enhanced flexibility in space claim design and weight distribution.

Work on the contract began in December 2024. Curtiss-Wright’s patented TDSS delivers highly accurate target location and turret stabilization, while allowing system integrators to adapt and upgrade the system as mission requirements evolve.

The TDSS employs standard configurations that speed development, enabling faster progression to demonstration and production phases. Its use of preconfigured components also shortens the requirements definition stage, reducing both cost and development time.
