Czech Republic nears deal to acquire L3Harris communications equipment

By Defence Industry Europe

The Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic is moving forward with plans to acquire a package of NATO-standard communications equipment from American defense contractor L3Harris Technologies. The potential deal, currently under negotiation, follows a formal request from Prague to purchase defense equipment valued at more than USD 180 million.

The United States Department of State has approved the proposed sale of a range of L3Harris communications systems to the Czech Republic through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

According to a statement released by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the Czech government has requested to purchase AN/PYQ-10A(C) simple key loaders; AN/PRC-160, AN/PRC-163, and AN/PRC-167 radios; RF-300M-DL(C) small secure data links; and associated support equipment. The package also includes logistics, technical assistance, and training support services.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally,” the DSCA said in a statement. “It will enhance the Czech Republic’s ability to contribute to NATO operations, secure the Alliance’s eastern flank, and deter regional aggression. The acquisition will also strengthen the Czech Republic’s capabilities in NATO and coalition expeditionary operations.”
