Two Danish F-35 fighter jets and a French MRTT tanker aircraft carried out a planned training mission in southeastern Greenland on 16 December. The mission focused on practising joint operations, including aerial refuelling, long-range flying and safety procedures in demanding Arctic conditions.

The aircraft flew from Fighter Wing Skrydstrup to the area around Kulusuk on Greenland’s east coast, while the French tanker departed from southern France and returned there after the mission. During the North Atlantic training, the aircraft also passed the Faroe Islands.

Similar activities were conducted last year by Denmark and France using Danish F-16 fighter jets along Greenland’s west coast. These missions formed part of broader efforts to strengthen air operations in Arctic regions and to build shared experience in cold and challenging environments.

The increased activity follows the Danish Armed Forces’ strengthened presence and training around Greenland in 2025 with allies including France, Germany, Sweden and Norway. This effort will continue in 2026 with further air, sea and land activities, and flights involving F-35s and tanker aircraft are expected to continue.
