Dassault Aviation and Thales, through its cortAIx AI accelerator, have signed a strategic partnership to develop controlled and supervised artificial intelligence for defence aeronautics. The agreement was concluded on 18 November by Eric Trappier and Patrice Caine, with the announcement made on 25 November at the International Adopt AI Summit in Paris.

The two companies aim to create sovereign AI solutions for manned and unmanned aircraft, supporting observation, situation analysis, decision making, planning and control in military operations. Pascale Lohat said, “This partnership is reflected in research and innovation programmes dedicated to the collaborative air combat of the future, with a view to incorporating AI into aeronautical defence systems. It is the culmination of strategic discussions launched by Dassault Aviation and Thales’ AI accelerator, cortAIx, and illustrates our shared commitment to trusted, sovereign and controlled artificial intelligence for the armed forces.”

Dassault Aviation and cortAIx will work within a long term global ecosystem aligned with national and European ethical and regulatory frameworks including the AI Act. Mickael Brossard said, “cortAIx will bring to this strategic partnership with Dassault Aviation the best of Thales’ technological heritage, enriched by decades of military experience, combined with the agility and dynamics of a powerful innovation accelerator. Present in France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore and soon in the United Arab Emirates, cortAIx relies on recognised technological partners to transform AI advances into concrete levers of sovereignty and efficiency.”

The partnership was presented at the Adopt AI event through a large scale demonstration highlighting ambitions supported by the European Defence Fund. Representatives from French and European institutional, academic and economic bodies were shown the joint strategy for controlled, supervised, sovereign and secure AI in defence.
