Denmark has committed EUR 130 million in financial aid to boost Ukraine’s defence manufacturing, including the production of missiles and drones. The announcement followed a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during her visit to Kyiv.

President Zelensky expressed gratitude to Denmark and its people for their unwavering support. He highlighted that Denmark has provided more than 20 defence aid packages and co-developed a model to enhance Ukraine’s defence production. “It enables other countries to invest in weapons manufacturing in Ukraine, including artillery, our ‘Bohdana’ systems, missiles, and long-range drones. We will continue to expand this cooperation,” Zelensky stated.

Prime Minister Frederiksen reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to Ukraine, emphasising the importance of its victory in the ongoing war. “We already see what your defence industry is capable of. We understand these investments make a real impact on the battlefield,” Frederiksen said.

Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, acknowledged Denmark’s leadership in supporting Ukraine’s defence sector. “We have successful joint projects, including a pilot initiative producing 18 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers and agreements for an additional nine units. Together, we’ve established an effective ‘Danish model’ of funding, which could be extended to collaborations with other nations,” Smetanin remarked.

Frederiksen further stressed the broader implications of Ukraine’s fight, asserting that the war’s outcome will shape the future of Europe. “You are part of our Euro-Atlantic family, belonging to the NATO and EU space. We will support your next steps during Denmark’s EU presidency, where enlargement will be a key priority,” she concluded.
