The work follows a recently signed memorandum of understanding covering technical integration across both companies’ portfolios. Its main focus is the Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun for German and international markets.
The companies intend to combine the gun with Diehl Defence’s high-precision, long-range 127 mm ammunition. BAE Systems is a leading global supplier of 127 mm naval guns and provides defense, aerospace and security technologies.
Diehl Defence and BAE Systems will also deepen cooperation on guided-missile integration. The companies will examine the potential integration of the IRIS-T missile family with BAE Systems launching systems.
“By working together to explore these technical synergies, we can develop customized solutions for our customers’ complex maritime defence requirements”, said Dr. Harald Buschek, chief program officer at Diehl Defence. “By combining our systems with BAE Systems’ platforms, we can enhance the effectiveness and operational capability of maritime defence systems.”
The collaboration links Diehl Defence’s ammunition and missile technologies with BAE Systems’ naval weapons portfolio. The companies will now explore and advance the technical work required for the proposed integrations.
