German defence company Diehl Defence announced it is investing around €1 billion to extend its infrastructure across all locations in response to rapidly rising demand. The company cited particularly strong growth in ground-based air defence (GBAD) systems, guided missiles and ammunition.

“Time is a decisive factor. Therefore we drive our investment and growth projects forward quickly,” the company stated. It added that with the completion of a new GBAD integration and test centre, production of the combat-proven IRIS-T SLM air defence system has been significantly increased to supply the German Armed Forces, customers of the ESSI initiative and international partners.

Extensive investments are also being made in ammunition and missile production, with numerous new buildings planned, some already completed, and additional modern production facilities acquired. According to Diehl Defence, this expansion has already resulted in higher production numbers, with further improvements planned.

The company also confirmed that the new Diehl Energy Products GmbH building is nearing completion. The construction provides 7,000 square metres for development, production and logistics, as well as 3,600 square metres of office space, quadrupling the existing area, with production of battery technologies for guided missiles, ammunition and other military and civilian applications set to begin later this year.

Diehl Defence underlined that its investments are not limited to infrastructure. The company stated that its workforce has also grown significantly and now exceeds 5,000 employees.
