DroneShield launches RfRecon to expand battlefield RF intelligence and counter-drone operations with sixfold spectrum coverage

DroneShield has launched RfRecon, a portable radio-frequency intelligence system designed to detect, identify, locate and assess activity across the electromagnetic spectrum. The company is targeting defense, government and security users operating amid growing drone, electronic warfare and wireless communications activity.

RfRecon is built on DroneShield’s RfAI-3 intelligence architecture and combines ultra-wideband spectrum awareness, precision direction finding and signal intelligence in one device. The system is designed to give operators operational context at the tactical edge without relying on multiple platforms or lengthy analysis.

DroneShield said RfRecon provides about six times more RF spectrum coverage than previous industry-adopted solutions. It also offers four times more processing and AI compute, 31 times more storage and eight times more memory.

The platform adds direction finding, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Remote ID, AIS and ADS-B detection, integrated GNSS and hardware-based security. DroneShield said these features are intended to improve situational awareness in increasingly complex electromagnetic environments.

“The electromagnetic spectrum has become one of the most important sources of operational intelligence on the modern battlefield, but collecting data is no longer enough,” said Angus Bean, Chief Executive Officer of DroneShield. “The teams that gain the greatest advantage will be those that can rapidly understand what they’re seeing and confidently act on it. RfRecon reflects that shift by bringing RF intelligence directly to the tactical edge.”

RfRecon can support dismounted, vehicle-mounted, expeditionary and fixed-site operations. Its open architecture allows integration with ATAK, third-party command-and-control platforms and complementary sensor technologies.

DroneShield said the system can also operate within layered counter-UAS architectures using cyber takeover and kinetic defeat capabilities. The company designed the platform to extend RF intelligence from individual operators at the tactical edge to wider enterprise command-and-control networks.

RfRecon can operate as a standalone system or as part of broader defense and security architectures. DroneShield said future software updates will continue to expand the platform’s RF intelligence capabilities over time.
