Echodyne chosen as radar provider for Australian Defence Force’s counter-drone programme Land 156

By Defence Industry Europe

Echodyne has announced it has been selected as the radar provider within the Australian Defence Force’s Project Land 156, an initiative to equip the force with continuous counter-drone capabilities. The project aims to modernise the ADF to meet the challenges of new technology and an evolving threat landscape.

The company will contribute radar expertise alongside systems integration team leader Leidos Australia, as well as EOS Australia, Acacia Systems, L3Harris Technologies and Department 13. EOS Australia already incorporates Echodyne radar into its Slinger remote weapon station.

“We are pleased to be selected as part of the Leidos Australia team for the Australian Defence Force counter-UAS project, Land 156,” said Eben Frankenberg, CEO of Echodyne. “As C-UAS solutions become ever more critical to mission success and dismounted soldier safety, Echodyne’s COTS architecture allows us to quickly respond to increasing global demand for our advanced MESA radar systems.”

Echodyne’s 4D metamaterials electronically scanned array (MESA) radars support counter-UAS operations by locking optical sensors for “eyes on object” and providing reliable precision tracking for mitigation platforms. The company emphasises that data fidelity is central to C-UAS mission success, with its radars generating highly accurate data for detecting, tracking, targeting and mitigating UAS intrusions.

Echodyne is a U.S.-based designer and manufacturer of advanced commercial radar systems for defence, government and commercial applications. Headquartered in Kirkland, Washington, the company is privately held and backed by investors including Bill Gates, NEA, Madrona Venture Group, Baillie Gifford, Northrop Grumman and Supernal.
