According to the company, the contract will be carried out over a three-year period and builds on an initial contract awarded by GD-OTS and announced by Elbit Systems on May 5, 2024. The new agreement reflects a continuation of Iron Fist APS integration efforts on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle platform.
The Iron Fist APS is a hard-kill active protection system designed to improve survivability and self-defense for armored vehicles against modern battlefield threats. As the Israel Defense Forces’ second-generation active protection system, it combines high performance with a compact design featuring low volume, weight, and power requirements.
Elbit Systems stated that Iron Fist provides full 360-degree protection against a broad range of threats, including anti-tank rockets, anti-tank guided missiles, unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions, and kinetic-energy tank ammunition. The system is designed to operate effectively in both open terrain and complex urban environments.
Iron Fist APS has been selected by the Israel Defense Forces and by leading NATO and other international armies for multiple fighting platforms. Elbit Systems noted that the current contract represents the third time the system has been selected by the United States Army.
Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, said, “Our globally recognized Active Protection System continues to demonstrate its technological edge.” He added, “As a leading provider in this field, we are proud of our close and strategic partnership with GD-OTS and the U.S. Army, and of the trust placed in us to deliver systems that enhance survivability and protect the lives of American troops in the field.”
