Ericsson Federal Technologies Group has been awarded a prime contract position on the Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, or SHIELD, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The contract vehicle has a ceiling value of $151 billion and supports the rapid delivery of innovative capabilities to the warfighter.

According to the company, the SHIELD IDIQ encompasses a broad range of work areas designed to increase speed and agility in providing advanced solutions. The award positions Ericsson Federal to contribute secure 5G and 6G technologies to homeland defense initiatives.

“Winning a prime position on the SHIELD contract vehicle is a defining moment for Ericsson Federal as we support the Golden Dome for America initiative,” said Christopher Ling, CEO of Ericsson Federal. “Our core mission is to improve network resiliency because, in this modern world of AI, robotics, and cyber, network security is national security.”

Ling said the company is focused on building a virtualized enterprise rooted in 5G and 6G technologies to provide resilient digital infrastructure. He added that this approach is intended to support the integration of Artificial Intelligence capabilities and align with a government shift toward a “commercial first” strategy.

“By building a virtualized enterprise rooted in 5G and 6G, Ericsson Federal is providing the resilient digital infrastructure required to realize the full potential of AI. As the government pivots to a ‘commercial first’ strategy, we are introducing dual-use innovations like Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) for detecting and tracking drones for counter-UAV missions at the tactical edge. Our commitment is to ensure the U.S. and its Allies maintain ever-increasing deterrence, protecting our borders, our citizens, and our digital sovereignty—sending a stronger signal to our adversaries,” Ling said.

Ericsson Federal describes itself as a network technology provider focused on delivering secure, high-performance 5G and 6G commercial technologies integrated with mission-focused AI and machine learning capabilities. The company stated that it leverages a secure U.S. supply chain, including Ericsson and its USA 5G Smart Factory, to provide resilient, open RAN-ready infrastructure for national security, homeland, and defense missions.
